Matt Sokol starting catching passes from me in Dixiana Court 15 years ago. The 12-year-old would run as far as I could throw it. What makes Matt such a special person happened about that time. Matt and his friends were outside playing Ghost in the Graveyard and this little 6-year-old girl with nothing to do was watching. Matt invited her to play and grabbed her hand and dragged this little girl around as he was playing with all his friends. That little girl was my daughter. He didn’t care about being cool or what his friends would think, he saw a little girl left out and invited her to play.

During the 2022-2023 Season, Matt earned his first year of service in the NFL, four years after entering the NFL. With all that is wrong with this world, Matt is what is right and good about this world. This is a player I hope you can cheer for like I do every week. There are less than 15 active MSU graduates playing in the NFL at this time. Also, of the 1696 players on rosters, there are less than 300 that graduated high school the year that Matt did. He is the definition of Perseverance.
